Over the Summer we were all asked create a set of images relating to the things we did & saw, places we visited or learnt during that time. As I was a pretty rusty when it came to drawing without then polishing it all to perfection up on my Mac, i resisted all urges and stuck to pens & pencils. Looking back, I wish I had converted them to vector art, but it was good to get to grips with creating images with the old 'traditional' methods again! Heres a few examples of the development work, rough sketches & final results.
'Something that tasted good' - New Forest caravan & cook out.
'Something I wore' - custom kicks from the girlfriend.
'Somewhere i found myself' - in a cabin, in the mountains, amongst a lemon grove. Totana, Spain.
'Something i discovered' - how make profiteroles.Hundreds, and hundreds of profiteroles.
Some kind anonymous words, from kind anonymous people.
After chatting to some of the 2nd year (level 5) illustration students I was given some nuggets of advice from their own experiences;
• Experiment a lot, but don't forget what makes you happy about being creative
• Time management will alleviate stress, DON'T leave things to the last minute.
• Try no to worry about what you're drawing casually
• Collage is a great idea to produce quick ideas
• Start collecting interesting ephemera, take photos & draw from these!
• Listen to Matt & Fred. They know how you should be doing things and what's best for your work, even if you don't think they do!
• Don't give any money to crack-heads.
