In order to get us all thinking less literally and encourage a bit of lateral thinking in relation to our chosen authors,whilst trying to find analogies between our particular subjects and 'something else', we grouped up and thrashed out a list of metaphors for a number of given words.
I wasn't really sure what to make of it at first, it felt like i was just throwing out associated words, like one of them plonker contestants on 'Catchphrase'. However, when i applied the same methods to my chosen author, it opened up a whole new set of possible avenues to look at that i never would of thought of. Real-life objects and things along with the intangible (new word there!).

This hopefully will help me 'up' the momentum on my sketchbook development and experimenting & prevent me from simply illustrating metaphors already written by Murakami, which is more or less all I've been doing so far?!
