Risoprint venture...
A couple of months back, during one of my one-to-one tutorials with Ben, we were discussing my frustrations with screen printing and he suggested that maybe i look into Riso printing.
It's taken a while to get around to sort out (and even longer to decide on a design to print, of course) but i felt i needed something to add to my PPP3 promo pack that wasn't so 'disposable' - as i get the feeling the promo leaflet and postcards will/would be discarded quite quickly.
Also it woudl give me a chace to finally see if my work suits the Riso treatment, and if would consider doing more in the future.
I had a bit of a shop around at some of the Riso printing services in Leeds and out of town, Hato, Risotto, Ditto and also Footprint - who were reccomened to me by James McBeath.
I went with Footprint in the end and they've been a pleasure to deal with, answering all the quesitons i had about paper weights and colour separations/registration etc.
Deign wise i opted to go with my 'Dismantippled Bloody Mary' design, as i initially designed it to one day be screen printed - that doesn't look likely now, but it's two-colour colour scheme with some big half tones (synonymous with the style i've carved out for myself) should suit the similar printing process involved with Risographs.
It was a toss up between this and my Von Count-apart design - both designed with screen print principles,(i have actually managed screen-printed this design, with mixed results) and its also two colour, so easier to register. I just felt this time round it would be better to use a design that was solely my creation. Von Count might be more popular but i cant really take credit fir creating him.
Either way, we'll see what happens, looking forward to seeing the results - ill have some left over if i want to try and sell a few, but looks like this will be another (uncertain) investment into getting my name and work out there and into peoples hands.
