I'd been trying to get to grips with the features on after effects on and off for a while now, and I'm enjoying making my drawings come to life. I had a rough story board i was following, but kept thinking of little movements i wanted to add to it as i went along. Have also been watching tutorials about using the camera and 3D features in order to make things look smoother and more 'movie' like. I'm a bit out of my depth and should maybe keep it a bit more straight forward and simple, but i thought as I'm working with a programme with such awesome facilities why not try and push the boat out a bit?!
As i was/am still working on the final imagery for two of my 3 prints the practice movements in the w.i.p sting are based around all the various elements featured on my 'whisky business' image. The initial, rough development can be seen below in a trimmed down version.
Initial storyboards planning transitions and effects.
'Slightly' simpler, but just as unachievable storyboard
exploring more possible screen fades and transitions
To get all the elements from the design to a position where i was able to move them around independently of each other was a bit of a pain but a necessary pain. I meant me creating a Photoshop document the same size as the After Effects document and cutting around all the shapes of the turkey, Doug Haig etc etc, and putting them all on separate layers. I could then import the whole PSD in AE and start animating the living crap out them. Early breakthroughs can be seen down there vvvv
I was finding it hard to go back add bits to earlier parts of the animation without things getting all shuffled about and out of sync. I Think using the camera & 3D features was a bit too early in my animation career,so i started over again, and a bit simpler and made sure i knew how i wanted everything to move on screen before actually animating it on AfterEffects.
With this 2nd short tinker with the 'whisky business' elements, i found various cartoon SFX on youtube and added them, as a practice with importing and editing sound. If it the sounds work together with the final music in the background ill leave them all in for the final sting.
